Here's What We've Got Brewing for 2022

Despite all that was happening in the world last year, Matthew’s & Co. Salon had a GREAT year. Why? Because we focused our efforts on giving back to our community and nurturing the relationships we have with our customers. 

Sure the news is scary. There is always some natural disaster tearing families apart or politicians profiting off of those with less. But at Matthew’s and Co. Salon we refuse to let fear dictate how we feel about our neighbors or fellow man. We believe that most people want the same things; shelter and safety for their families, a community to connect with, and ample rest and relaxation. 

While we can’t solve all the world’s problems from behind the chair, we can make sure that you feel your best from the moment you step into our salon doors to the moment you walk out. And that’s all any of us can do - focus on the human standing in front of you and try to make them feel a little better than they did moments before. 

So for 2022, we are doubling down on our efforts in order to make sure that you have a safe place to seek refuge and recharge. Despite what is going on in the world or your personal life, you can walk into our sanctuary and rest assured that you are in good hands. Let Me Introduce You to Our Cutting Garden...

What’s a cutting garden? I’m glad you asked. Today I’ll be informing you about where I got the idea to implement a cutting garden as well as explain exactly what it is. 

As most of you know, 2021 was a BIG year for Matthew’s & Co Salon because we expanded and moved across the street in to the former Ameris Bank. Not only did the move allow us to accommodate more guests but now we have our very own cutting garden! 

This innovative approach to haircutting allows guests to get their hair done outside while lounging in the most beautiful garden you’ve ever seen. The garden contains four chairs surrounded by mother nature’s finest flora.

Why would we want to cut hair outside? Not only is being amongst greenery good for your health and helps lower your stress levels, but it’s also a Covid-safe way to getting beautified! At Matthew’s & Co. Salon, your safety has always been a big concern for us which is why we are all so excited about the cutting garden.

It's Official....We've Expanded!

It’s official...Matthew’s & Co. Salon has recently expanded and moved across the street into the former Ameris Bank in the Publix shopping center. Our new address is: 7375 Spout Springs Road Flowery Branch, GA 30542 in Braselton, Georgia.

Take a look at the video above to see just how we were able to pull off this very innovative retrofitting; we turned the vault into a spa, the drive-through into a lounge area, and the outside area into a cutting garden. Currently, we have the potential to accommodate 75 chairs and have a full barbershop (known as The Fellowship Hall).

Tips to Protect Your Hair (and Scalp) This Summer

While spending time playing in the water or working on your suntan might be your main priorities this summer, there is one thing you shouldn’t forget about - the havoc that UV rays can wreak on your hair and scalp. While we all probably know how important it is to wear sunscreen in order to protect our body and face from harmful rays, we often forget about applying the same protection to our scalp and hair. That’s why in this post we will be sharing a few tips to keep your locks looking beautiful all summer long. But first, here are some stats to drive our point home - protecting your hair and scalp is ESSENTIAL!

If you step outside without protection, you’re increasing the chances that your color will fade (due to oxidation) and your hair will turn brittle (due to loss of moisture) which could lead to thinning hair. In addition, the free radicals produced by wind, chlorine, and saltwater can compromise your hair fiber leading to a brittle texture. And since chemically treated hair is more vulnerable to moisture loss, it’s even more important to protect your hair if you color your hair. For example, those who dye their hair blonde may experience a brassy appearance if they go out in the sun unprotected. And we don’t want that!!

Have you heard the news? Matthew’s & Co. Salon is expanding - and moving across the street into the former Ameris Bank (and yes, you better believe we are keeping that amazing vault door!)  Our new address is: 7375 Spout Springs Road Flowery Branch, GA 30542

Not only will the new location allow us to accommodate more clients, but there will be plenty of space for proper social distancing (a must in this unpredictable day and age). For example, the bank’s drive-thru area will be converted into a beautiful garden area where outdoor haircuts will be provided. That way our clients who don’t feel comfortable in an enclosed salon, will also be able to experience the power of a good haircut.

To give you an idea of just how big our new location is - our old location was only able to accommodate 21 chairs for clients while our new location will be able to accommodate 71 chairs! In addition, the new and improved Matthews & Co. will now have a separate space for anyone seeking barber services (known as The Fellowship Hall)-  as well as space for luxurious Spa services. That means you will be able to get a massage, a facial, lashes, a haircut, a manicure, a sunless tan, AND your makeup done - all under one roof! 

And because we REALLY love y’all - we’ll also wash your car while you’re getting dolled up inside. Now THAT’S service!

We Gave Away 39 Haircuts to Healthcare Workers During Covid

At the beginning of 2020, like everyone else in the world, we had no idea what would be coming or that our lives would be completely altered from one day to the next. 

Though the first quarantine was hard on the salon financially and emotionally (because we were required to shut down for over six weeks), we knew that there were folks in our community who had it MUCH harder - like those fighting Covid on the frontlines. Instead of crying over the truckload of lemons that life gave us, we decided to make some lemonade and give back to the community we love so dearly. 

Since the first lockdown, we vowed to give one complimentary haircut a week to healthcare workers who were putting their lives on the line to fight this deadly virus. At the time we didn’t realize the virus would carry on so long, but nine months later - we haven’t stopped giving back! Since the first lockdown went into effect nine months ago, we are proud to announce that we have provided thirty-nine haircuts to the nurses and healthcare workers who are fighting the good fight! 

Matthews & Co. Salon is no stranger to giving back.  During a non-pandemic year, we try to provide free back to school haircuts for those in need as well as provide free haircuts to the homeless two to three times a year, but this last year was far from normal and due to hygiene restrictions, we weren’t able to give back like we normally do. Which is why we decided to show our nurses and healthcare workers how much they mean to us. 

This past year has been a huge reminder to cherish the community you live in because it’s the soil that nourishes your soul. We love our community and will continue to do everything in our power to give back. Let’s hope this virus is over soon and we can get back to supporting our community, local churches, and local charities in a BIG way. We love y’all and stay safe!

The Power of a Good Haircut

Never underestimate the power of a good haircut. Not only does a good haircut have the power to transform the way you feel about yourself on the outside, it can also alter how you feel about yourself on the inside which can then have positive effects on your community, your family, your office and your own self-worth.

Take our client (and friend) Jack Pruett, for example. Jack is autistic. When he first started coming to the salon it was hard for him to make eye contact with the staff or to hold a conversation with us. He didn’t even want us to acknowledge he was there. After Matt gave him the haircut of his dreams and helped him feel at ease, he began to open up to us. To see Jack now compared to back then is like night and day.
